Forget FIRE, I Want Cash Flow

Everyone talks about their 'magic number' for retirement and FIRE. But what if the goal wasn't just a giant pile of money, but a steady stream of cash that hits your bank account every few months, without you having to sell a single thing? That's the power of dividend investing, and it's the foundation of my entire financial strategy.

Why Dividend Investing?

I focus on growing my personal cash flow from my investments. Through market ups and downs, I prefer to hug my stock portfolio closely, collect dividends and never sell a thing. It's my 'golden goose', laying golden eggs (dividends) for me year after year. This approach provides peace of mind as I see real cash flowing in almost every month, paid from the real profits of real businesses without having to sell any of my assets.

Having money opens up choices in life. One agenda of this blog is sharing with other people my journey of building passive income for a more comfortable life. I hope that reading this could maybe help you in your own journey too.

What About Just Buying An Index Fund?

The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, 1949, talks about long-term investing through low-cost ETFs like VOO tracking a market index. This is a fantastic, proven strategy. Investment is a solved problem: buy quality assets and hold them for long-term. But for my goal of generating spendable passive income now and in the future, a targeted dividend approach is more direct.

Dividend investing offers a simple and powerful path to long-term investing. The real magic of dividend investing lies in cash flow, the dividends paid to you by companies, and the peace of mind it offers. You do not sell your valuable shares to get income. Your gold goose keeps laying eggs for you year after year, often growing larger too. This can happen as your number of shares increase with your dividends reinvested, as well as your companies growing their profits and enhancing shareholder returns.

My Focus: The Singapore Market

I focus on companies with reasonable valuations and a track record of good sustainable dividend payouts. Our local SGX market is rich with such opportunities to build a strong portfolio of income-generating assets.

This is just my philosophy, and there are many paths to financial freedom. What's your investing strategy?
